President Barack Obama signed the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act during a White House ceremony Thursday, celebrating a "bipartisan action."

The Clay Hunt SAV Act strives to end the high and increasing number of veteran suicides.

According to the bill, it will provide a program to help veterans access mental health services in the Department of Veterans Affairs, require the VA to create a website with resources for mental health services and authorize the VA to increase retention of mental health staff.

U.S. Congressman Scott Peters, the representative from California's 52nd District, participated in Thursday's ceremony at the White House.

"This will make a real difference in the lives of San Diego veterans and their families," Rep. Peters said. "Getting the bill passed through Congress and signed by the President is the kind of bipartisan action that the American people expect, and that the country's veterans deserve."
